Meet Your Therapist
Michael Peddle | RP, CCC, C. Hyp
Hi, I’m Micheal
Mine has been a journey to say the least.
My budding aspirations for career choice involved a whole lot of singing, acting and dancing (preferably in that order). For a long time, if I wasn’t performing, then I was doing nothing. How did I go from one end of the spectrum all the way to the other? Well, it actually makes a lot of sense if you connect the dots…
All I really wanted to do was sing, but as I hit my mid-twenties, I figured I needed to do something else in between performing gigs. The obvious choice was to begin teaching. This started with teaching private voice sessions at studious around St. John’s NL (shout out to The Music Studio). It was during this time that I considered and eventually opted to complete a Music Education degree. It was shortly after I began teaching and developed some relationships with my students that they began opening up to me in our sessions. My students began letting me see inside the emotional backpack that they were wearing every day and I didn’t know how to help them, but I knew that I wanted to.
So after talking to some friends and doing my own research, I applied and completed a Masters of Education specializing in Counselling. Now, I work with adolescents and adults, helping them move through their ‘stuff’. More recently, I’ve continued my training and became a Clinical Hypnotherapist (C. Hyp). I cannot put into words how this has changed my practice and the lives of my clients, but it has also changed me.
My work incorporating hypnosis into therapy sessions led me to the concept of working with Parts. This has been a game-changer in my work. When you come to a therapy session with me, you and I will be working with the different parts of you. Some parts of you sought out therapy, but maybe there are also parts of you that are hesitant to work with a therapist. Each of us has many parts that live within us. These parts are like little pieces of you, each with their own thoughts, feelings, goals, and views of how the world is. In my work, we access these parts of you and we become curious about them. There are no bad parts and all parts are welcome. I treat each of your parts with respect and I help you work with your parts rather than getting rid of them. This type of therapy is called Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) since we are working with your ‘internal’ family. This type of therapy works so well with clinical hypnosis.
If you want to know more about clinical hypnotherapy, feel free to contact me, I love-love-love talking about this work.

ONE LAST THING!
If you look at my logo you can see that I use an iceberg as a symbol.
There are two reasons for this. The first is that I am a proud Newfoundlander, I was born and raised there and most of my family and friends still live there. Icebergs in Newfoundland are about as common as sand in a desert. I was fortunate to grow up witnessing these beasts and so that symbol holds a special place in my heart. The second reason is more therapeutic. Therapy is about exploring and embracing what’s beneath the surface, the parts of us that we don’t like to acknowledge or let others see. Just like with the iceberg, there is more beneath the surface! I often use this analogy with clients, and when I do, they understand the process of therapy.
